I BELIEVE IN YOU – Featuring Sara Ann Gallagher March 24, 2016

Gallagher_SKIES

We are pleased to host a solo exhibition of paintings, which feature narrative based explorations of  identity.

March 24, 2016

5-8 pm

‘I feel that what’s really inside of us is hidden by our outer appearance. We create a boundary much like being inside of a glass box where everyone can see you, but not get passed the walls surrounding to see what’s inside … Our disguises allow us to surrender only what we feel must be revealed. The communication becomes distorted into an imaginary life and the true feelings, thoughts, happiness and even pain is never really fully experienced. Passion, love and sex are also misinterpreted. Our own ‘canvas’ then remains unfinished because the truth is so hard to come by.’ – Sara Ann Gallagher

Sara Ann Gallagher is currently living in North Palm Beach, FL. She grew up in North Carolina where her love of the arts first began. She has been selling art from the early age of 12, and has now sold hundreds of paintings – including to celebrities such as Ethan Hawke. Gallagher has had solo exhibitions all over the country, including New York City, North Carolina, Kansas City, Florida and Washington DC. She studied at the College Of Design at North Carolina State University and then transferred to the School of Visual Arts in NYC to finish her Fine Arts degree.

UNCONDITIONALLY DOGS Works by Skip Hartzell Opening Dec. 10th, 2015

Skip Hartzell, Waiting, Mixed Media Sculpture, 28 x 20 inches

Skip Hartzell, Waiting, Mixed Media Sculpture, 28 x 20 inches

Opening Thursday, December 10th , 6:30 -8:30 pm,  Skip Hartzell is showing inventive new depictions of his best friends. Paintings, sculpture and works on paper will be on display for the first time at ARTHOUSE 429 in the exhibition titled,Unconditionally Dogs.

Hartzell’s work is definitely not dog portraits; they are renditions of familiar imagery, often times drawn from memory.  In a series of large works on paper, Hartzell employs his intuitive sense of spirited compositions as he builds up layers of Flashe (a vinyl-based professional grade matte paint) and graphite to create the drawing and then he more or less fills in the blanks. In other works, notably his sculptural arrangements, Hartzell has developed a successful formula of papier-mâché mix coated with aqua resin, and often supported with a fusion of diluted cement and an inside wire armature that takes on an abstract shape.

“Dogs are always in the moment”. Hartzell said. “Although nothing in life has held my attention or has been more fascinating to me than dogs, my art is about more than that. My work is about form, movement, color and texture. The dogs are a recognizable image that permits me to explore my emotions, passions and sentiments.

Making art for me is intuitive; it is very much like walking my dogs. I am always excited and waiting to see where the dogs want to go.”

Skip is a longtime supporter of no-kill animal rescues and has been a dedicated sponsor of Big Dog Ranch Rescue. He and his wife have adopted several dogs from the organization.

During opening night, Hartzell has generously offered to donate specially selected dog sculptures to anyone that donates a minimum of $250 to Big Dog Ranch Rescue.  Additionally, a generous portion of all sales of his other work will be donated to the ranch.

Skip Hartzell holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Fine Art. He worked in Advertising and Direct Marketing for 32 years. Retired in 2011 he now is happy to be a full time artist.

The exhibition is open to the public \ and continues through December 31, 2015.

Seven local artists have been selected to paint outdoor murals on seven overhead doors on an active warehouse in Northwood Village as part of a CANVAS a two-week outdoor museum experience running November 8-22 in West Palm Beach.  The competition, known as CANVAS Local Showdown will have one winner that will receive a coveted position on the official lineup for CANVAS 2016. The competition, conceived by ArtHouse429 in collaboration with CANVAS and the Community Redevelopment Agency, will take place directly across the street from the ArtHouse429 contemporary art gallery on 25th street.  The event is open to the public, and all attendees will be able to cast their vote for their favorite CANVAS Local Showdown mural by using the official CANVAS Art App.  The murals will be completed during the event on the evening of Friday November 13th, and voting will continue through November 21st. The winner of CANVAS Local Showdown will be announced at the CANVAS Closing Brunch event on Sunday, November 22.

In addition to the Mural Competition, ArtHouse429 will host a Cocktail Reception throughout the evening where guests can mingle with the local artists, luminaries and world-renowned muralists from CANVAS WPB. Arthouse429 will also debut an all new group exhibition of contemporary fine art to celebrate the start of the coming season.

“We are very excited that CANVAS has selected Northwood Village to host the CANVAS Local Showdown. We conceived this event to connect the vibrant local art scene to the internationally recognized CANVAS Outdoor Museum Show. This is a wonderful acknowledgement to the artists and galleries that have worked so hard to build this area into a world class center for the arts.” William Halliday, Owner ArtHouse429.

The CANVAS Local Showdown will also feature a modern dance performance by the Demetrius Klein Dance Factory, and DJ Cole of C-Keys Recording and Vinyl will be providing the Soundtrack for the Showdown.
